89% Pass Accuracy, 5 tackles won - Everton loanee shines for crisis club

Everton loanee John Lundstram was a real positive for Championship crisis club Blackpool at the weekend.

Just getting a side out at the weekend for Blackpool was an achievement, so their 2-0 defeat away to Nottingham Forest was in itself not the worst result.

The Tangerines fielded a side filled with Premier League cast offs such as ex Aston Villa forward Nathan Delfouneso and Chelsea trainee Jacob Mellis, and loanees such as Everton's John Lundstram.

Lundstram, 20, secured his loan switch just days before Blackpool's season kicked off, to get regular football under his belt, as opposed to another season with the under-21 side.

And during their defeat at the City Ground on Saturday, he was arguably Blackpool's standout performer.

The youngster completed an impressive 89 per cent of his passes across the 90 minutes, the highest figure of any midfielder on the pitch who played more than half the game.

Lundstram also made more passes (55) than any Blackpool player, and created two goalscoring chances, again - more than any of his teammates.

Defensively he was also a strong contributor - winning more tackles than any other midfielder on the away side, with only one Forest counterpart, Chris Burke, bettering him with five.

In terms of interceptions, Lundstram made three, a feat in the Blackpool side matched only by his midfield partner Jacob Mellis.

Considering Lundstram's lack of previous Championship experience - he had played only in League One on loan previously - and a lack of time to acclimatise, his performance was exceptional.

It's a great sign for Everton fans, and a beacon of hope for Blackpool supporters.

His display also causes questions as to why further Premier League sides are not looking at loaning Blackpool players, for there are positions up for grabs in a competitive league, where youngsters like Lundstram are going to get the chance to play regularly and make a name for themselves.

How good a prospect do you believe Lundstram to be?
