Phil Neville has praised three Manchester United youngsters who impressed him on tour.

Phil Neville may have left the Manchester United coaching set up, but he remains on good terms with the club, interviewed on the club's website just this week.

The former United and Everton utility man gave his views on varying aspects of the club's tour, describing Ashley Young as the standout player, but picked out the three prospects who impressed him the most.

Neville said: "There have been many though, who excelled themselves playing in a different system - Blackett, Lingard and Michael Keane have done really well on tour.

"Everyone knows how this club produces young players and Louis van Gaal, in particular, has a history of bringing up young players through the ranks at every club he has been at.

"They’ve come back from the tour buoyant knowing they are a step closer to gaining a first-team place."

Lingard netted the club's final goal on tour, a strike from the edge of the box against Liverpool, the second pre-season in succession he has made an impact.

He was extremely unfortunate not to be given a chance at United last season, and this time around he will hope Louis Van Gaal takes a gamble on him, where David Moyes failed to.

Keane has been linked with a loan move away from the club to Cardiff City in recent days, but this will depend on United bringing in a defender of their own between now and the end of the transfer window.

Blackett is the biggest wildcard of the three. The versatile defender had an unremarkable loan spell at Birmingham last season, but was consistently one of the club's best performers on tour. He has certainly given Van Gaal food for though.

United also have the exciting talent of James Wilson primed for action, who netted four in the Manchester Senior Cup against rivals City last week, while Nick Powell missed the trip through injury.
