Arsenal Stadium - Emirates

Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Eisfeld made his debut for Fulham in their 2-1 away defeat to Ipswich Town in the Championship on Saturday.

Arsenal won the FA Community Shield at London's Wembley Stadium on Sunday, but for one player who was owned by the North London club until just last month, it was not a very happy weekend.

Thomas Eisfeld joined Fulham from the Gunners on a two-year deal last month and made his debut for the Cottagers against Ipswich Town at Portman Road in the Championship on Saturday.

The 21-year-old attacking midfielder came on at half time in place of Chris David, but could not prevent Felix Magath’s side from slumping to a 2-1 defeat.

After the match, the German youngster posted the following picture of himself on Instagram with the message: ‘Happy to have made my debut yesterday ;-) not the best result but we will keep Going!!’.

Fulham suffered relegation from the Premier League at the end of the 2013-14 season and are, on paper at least, one of the favourites to bounce back into the top flight this term.

However, the Championship is one of the most competitive domestic leagues in Europe and there is no guarantee that the London club will be playing top-flight football in 2015-16.

Kicking off the new campaign with a defeat to Ipswich was not the ideal start for Magath and his players, but as Eisfeld says, Fulham just have to keep going.

Did Arsenal make a mistake in letting Thomas Eisfeld leave?
