47% pass accuracy, 0 shots: Cellino's new boy fails to make debut impact

Leeds United East Stand

Leeds United new boy Souleymane Doukara struggled to make an impact as the Yorkshire side went down 2-0 away at Millwall.

It was the start that many Leeds fans were dreading as a new era under Massimo Cellino got under way in unsatisfactory fashion.

Millwall, who took the lead after just eight minutes, were the side that made more of their possession and condemn Dave Hockaday to a loss on his first day as Leeds United manager. After the match, however, 'the Hock' focused on the positives rather than the negatives but acknowledged that the result was not acceptable in anyway.

''First half we didn't perform, didn't stick to the game plan,'' said Hockaday. ''Having said that, we conceded a poor goal from a corner.

''The good thing is we responded well in the second half. But football's about moment and we didn't handle the moments as well as they did. We learnt a lot about our players and how they can handle the big occasion.''

In truth, a number of Leeds United players can be blamed for not rising to the occasion, but Doukara, who Leeds fans touted as a potential key player in the match, was one of the more noticeable ones.

In the 64 minutes he played before being dragged off for Lewis Cook, he made just 25 touches and had the worst pass accuracy - 47% - in the game. In fact, it was one of the lowest recorded in the division on opening day.

As well as his untidy play on the ball, he was dispossessed three times, more than anyone else in the Leeds United team, and failed to record a single shot in the match.

Under the circumstances, the poor performance is likely to be forgotten quickly by the Leeds United supporters and the lack of creativity from the players around him will have no doubt hindered the potential impact he could have made.

When Bianchi returns, a player he has shown good chemistry with in pre-season, then it's likely we will see a much improved Doukara.

Leeds fans, what did you make of Doukara's performance?
