£10 million man: White Hart Lane debut was an honour

Tottenham Hotspur summer signing, Ben Davies, says that making his home debut for the club was an honour.

Tottenham Hotspur new-boy, Ben Davies, says that he was honoured to make his home debut for the club at the weekend and that they are on a high heading into the new season.

Davies, signed from Swansea City for £10 million last month, made his home bow for Spurs in the club’s pre-season friendly win against Schalke and he says that the reception he received from the fans at White Hart Lane meant a lot to him.

“It was great to get out on the pitch for the first time and we were really appreciative of the reception,” he said.

“It was a real honour to play in front of the home crowd and I’m glad we got the win.

“I think we deserved to win and it could have been more. We created lots of chances, won the game and we know there is more to come.”

Davies comes into Spurs following a tumultuous season, where they failed to live up to expectations.

After a summer of lavish spending, the North-London club were expected to mount a challenge to breach the top four, but their form – under two different managers – was poor and they slumped to a sixth placed finish.

Over the summer they have appointed Mauricio Pochettino in the hope that he will be able to lift the club again and the initial signs have been promising.

Spurs have remained unbeaten in their pre-season matches so far and because of this Davies says the morale in the camp is high ahead of the start of the Premier League.

“We’re looking forward to it [the start of the season],” Davies added. “We’re on a high after pre-season and hopefully we can go there and get off to a positive start.”

Spurs start their campaign off by visiting West Ham United in what is an important match for the side.

The Hammers have a good recent history against Tottenham and have won the last three matches between the two sides, so Spurs will be desperate to avenge this fact and stop their London rivals from taking their streak to four on the trot.

If they can then the spirit is sure to lift even further and that will be encouragement to fans of the club that they can break into the top four and have Champions League football on the horizon again.

Will Davies be a good addition at Tottenham?
