Roma ready to lose a star, begin eyeing Jovetic

Stevan Jovetic playing for Montenegro

Roma are starting to accept that one of their key men will leave this summer and have reportedly begun advances towards Stevan Jovetic.

The next fortnight could be a dramatic one for Roma with a host of big names being linked with exits and a new target on the horizon.

Having finished runners-up in Serie A last season, the Eternal City side were keen to keep the backbone of their squad together while adding some extra recruits.

While sporting director Walter Sabatini has done some good business with swoops for Juan Iturbe, Ashley Cole and Davide Astori, Roma may now have to sell to keep the books balanced.

Sabatini is hoping to keep defender Mehdi Benatia despite links with Chelsea and he may have to sacrifice midfielder Adem Ljajic to Atletico Madrd or Mattia Destro to Tottenham.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Sabatini is readying himself for the possibility of multiple departures by beginning talks with Manchester City over Stevan Jovetic.

The Montenegrin international is expected to stay put and Inter and Juventus have already been reportedly warned off, but Roma's transfer guru is said to have made some progress.

Roma would be pushed to search for a new source of goals should Destro leave and if Benatia is also sold they may have some money to spare after signing a defensive replacement.

Is Stevan Jovetic a better player than Mattia Destro?
