Predicted Leeds United XI vs Accrington Stanley: Four full debutants, including 17-year-old

Elland Road pitchside

We take a look at the starting XI we think Leeds fans should expect to line-up against Accrington Stanley tonight in the League Cup.

When Saturday finally came, it's fair to say that the Leeds United fans that made the trip to London didn't have the best of times.

Dave Hockaday, who after the match bemoaned the 'moments' in the game, started life as Leeds head coach with a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Millwall. However, it wasn't all negative responses from the former Forest Green man who did acknowledge that there were positives to take away from the match.

One of the major positives from the game, of course, was the introduction of 17-year-old central midfielder Lewis Cook

Cook, who played a huge role in England's Under-17 European Championship win in the summer, replaced Souleymane Doukara after 64 minutes and had a largely positive effect on the game, despite being responsible for conceding the penalty that condemned Leeds to their first defeat of the season.

The introduction of the youngster against Millwall, at a point where Leeds were 1-0 and chasing an equaliser, shows the faith from the management in the young player to help change a game. Therefore it would not be at all surprising if, in a period where games come thick and fast, he is selected from the start against Accrington Stanley tonight.

Predicted team to play Accrington Stanley tonight:

Silvestri

Byram - Pearce - Wootton - Berardi

Cook

Austin - Benedicic

Bianchi - Doukara - Ajose

Analysis:

In the back five, don't expect many changes, if any. However, Berardi, who was an unused sub against Millwall, may be handed his competitive debut in a Leeds United shirt at the expense of Stephen Warnock.

The majority of the changes would come in the middle of the park, especially after the lack of creativity on show against Millwall.

Bianchi, who was suspended in the match against Millwall, could make his first competitive start in a Leeds United shirt, along with Cook, who could make his first start for the club, just one game following on from his debut.

Austin, who was the busiest man in the middle of the park Saturday, should be expected to retain his place in the Leeds side alongside Benedicic, who would also record his Leeds debut with game time.

Upfront, I expect Bianchi to be given a free role which would allow Leeds fluidity to their formation, and Ajose and Doukara to start alongside him.

Both new striker signings, Ajose and Doukara, started against Millwall but were underwhelming in their performance. In truth, they were hard done by as the service to them was poor.

The match against Accrington Stanley will give them a better platform to showcase their abilities and if all goes well, they could look to get their names on the scoresheet for the first time this season.
