Top-ten Premier League shirt printings for last season: Ozil, Suarez, Rooney feature

Ozil Arsenal 5

The most popular Premier League players have been determined judging by shirt sales.

Manchester United striker Robin Van Persie can be deemed the most popular footballer in the Premier League, judging by the amount of shirt sales with his name on the reverse.

The Premier League published findings after a review into the 2013/14 season, and revealed that the Dutchman out-sold every other star in terms of shirt sales.

Liverpool duo Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez made up the league’s top-three most popular hero printings, in a top-ten that was dominated by Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea.

Eden Hazard, Frank Lampard and Juan Mata featured in the list, with Mata having transferred to United back in January, sparking more shirt sales.

The arrival of Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid to Arsenal saw him become by far the clubs most popular shirt printing, and is the only Gunner to feature in the top-ten. Wayne Rooney was sixth behind Ozil, while Sergio Aguero and Shinji Kagawa completed the most popular names.

Van Persie’s name at the top of the findings was the second time in as many seasons he has figured as the most popular printing, after he moved from Arsenal to Manchester United.

Surprise exclusions from the list include the likes of popular Chelsea man John Terry, as well as Ryan Giggs at United, while no Tottenham Hotspur players featured.

This summer has seen plenty of Premier League signings that could break into the list in twelve-months’ time. Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa are likely to be prove popular buys for supporters in the Chelsea club shops, while the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Ander Herrera and Rickie Lambert will no doubt prove hits at their respective clubs.
