Should Celtic try and bring Artur Boruc back to the club?

Artur Boruc

Following the departure of Fraser Forster, Celtic have found themselves linked with numerous 'keepers.

Fraser Forster's departure was inevitable given his consistently good displays for Celtic, and to further his England ambitions it was in his best interests to move to the Premier League.

Forster completed his move to Southampton last week for £10 million despite Celtic being controversially re-instated into the Champions League. They may not be on the lookout for a immediate replacement however as they do have the forgotten Craig Gordon in their ranks.

Gordon became the most expensive British goalkeeper of all time in 2007 when he joined Sunderland from Hearts for £9 million. The Scotsman's talent was clear to see but his stay at Sunderland was interrupted by injuries and he was released in 2012. He failed to find a club until this summer when he joined Celtic and it would be intriguing to see how he copes if he is thrown straight into the side following Forster's sale.

An option for Celtic could be to bring back former player Artur Boruc who has now been displaced as the number one at Southampton. The Polish shot-stopper was at Celtic between 2005 and 2010 making 221 appearances for them. The 34-year-old kept 14 clean sheets in 29 Premier League games last season for The Saints and would still be a great option for Celtic for their Champions League campaign.

Boruc has had a very respectable career but one would think that he won't be too happy playing second fiddle to Forster at St Mary's. Celtic would be able to prise Boruc away for a relatively modest fee as Southampton also have Paulo Gazzaniga and Kelvin Davis as back-up options.

Other goalkeepers to have been linked with Celtic are Ali Al Habsi of Wigan and Jason Steele of Middlesbrough who are both currently out of favour. Ronny Deila may just stick with his current options of Gordon and Lukasz Zaluska who both have plenty of Scottish Premier League experience.
