Liverpool have long been involved in negotiations with Sevilla over the signing of defender Alberto Moreno, and finally on Tuesday they got their man.
The Reds made the announcement right after the Spanish club’s 2-0 defeat to Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup at the Cardiff City Stadium in Cardiff.
‘Liverpool can confirm they have reached an agreement with Sevilla for the transfer of Spain international full-back Alberto Moreno’, read a statement on their official website.
‘The Reds will proceed with the formalities of finalising the deal for the 22-year-old over the coming days and will make no further announcement until it is complete’.
It has been widely reported in the British media that the transfer fee that Liverpool had to pay Sevilla is £12 million, £8m less than what the Europa League winners were initially looking for.
Moreno will head to Anfield as one of the most promising young left-backs in Europe. The 22-year-old may have made his debut for Sevilla’s first team only in 2012, but in 2013-14 he enjoyed a breakthrough season.
The Spain international started 27 matches and made two substitute appearances in La Liga, scoring three goals in the process and helping Sevilla to a fifth-place finish.
The youngster played 14 matches in the Europa League and was a key figure in Unai Emery’s side winning the competition.
Moreno is expected to slot into Liverpool’s starting line-up rightaway, and the club’s fans’ reaction to the transfer has been largely positive.
However, there have been some Liverpool fans who have pointed out that Moreno has played just one season in the Spanish top flight and may not be that good.

Hate players who leave teams in tears. If you really don't want to go, don't. Sure they'll be fine with the wages they get anyway. #Moreno— Patrick Gysin (@Gysin5) August 13, 2014
Will Alberto Moreno be a good signing for Liverpool?
