New Manchester United signing Ander Herrera earned rave reviews for his performances during the club’s tour of North America, and his outing in the pre-season finale against Valencia was just as well received.
Making his first appearance in a United shirt at Old Trafford, the 24-year-old midfielder put in another impressive outing during Tuesday night’s 2-1 win, showcasing his immaculate control for the home fans with the above moment of brilliance.
With manager Louis van Gaal also taking charge of his first game in the home dugout, the Premier League club opened the scoring four minutes into the second-half through Darren Fletcher, before Benfica loanee Rodrigo levelled for Valencia 20 minutes from the end.
Substitute Marouane Fellaini would seal it for van Gaal’s side, however, getting the game-winner in the stoppage time to the set things up well for their Premier League opener against Swansea on the weekend.
Herrera had previously played at the Theatre of Dreams for Atletico Bilbao in 2012, when his former club beat United 5-3 on aggregate in the last-16 of the Europa League.
Appearing in 128 games for the Basque outfit over the past three seasons, before sealing his £29 million switch to England, big things are expected of the Spaniard and, if he can keep producing that skill and control which was on display against Valencia, then it won’t be long before he endears himself to supporters.
What kind of impact will Herrera have for Manchester United this season?
