As Hull City’s Shane Long nears a move to Southampton, it seems Steve Bruce is already lining-up his ideal successor. The sale of the Republic of Ireland international means the Tigers will have the funds available to pursue Manchester United front-man Danny Welbeck, who, according to reports, is valued at around £14million.
It is unclear how the English youngster is going to fit into new manager Louis van Gaal’s first team plans as it is unlikely he will feature in his natural position as a centre-forward. If he is unhappy playing a support role for the Red Devils, he could see Hull as the perfect platform for regular football.

Welbeck has plenty to offer the Tigers, after all, he is an outstanding, yet undervalued, talent. He has made 139 appearances in all competitions for United, scoring 29 times with 20 - nine of which he bagged last term - coming in the Premier League.

|Robin van Persie||Man Utd||FW||19.35||21||1,584|
|Wayne Rooney||Man Utd||FW||16.83||29||2,448|
The youngster certainly has an eye for goal, although he has not always been able to show this. Last season he proved himself as one of the Premier League’s most clinical players, converting a higher percentage of chances than Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney and even the top flight’s top scorer Luis Suarez.

His athleticism makes him the ideal forward partner for Nikica Jelavic, who has enjoyed somewhat of a renaissance since joining the Tigers. The Englishman causes opposition defences huge problems with his dribbling ability and frightening pace, but he also has a keen eye for a pass.
While Hull have the budget available to push through a deal, the tricky task would come in persuading Welbeck to ditch Old Trafford for a switch to the KC Stadium. His future at the Manchester club remains unclear and Steve Bruce could offer him an ideal avenue to continue his development as a regular first team option.
Hull fans, would you welcome the arrival of Danny Welbeck?
