Davide Santon has moved to quash rumours linking the former Inter Milan defender with a move back to Serie A with Fiorentina this summer.
Davide Santon has no intention of departing Newcastle United for a return to his homeland with Fiorentina, after moving to dismiss speculation linking him with the Serie A side.
The 23-year-old has excelled since arriving at St James’ Park from Inter Milan for a bargain price of £5.3 million back in August 2011 and despite being consistently linked with a return to Italy, it would appear that the player is loving life in Newcastle.
Speaking in an interview with Firenzeviola.it, the defender rejected reports that he could soon be heading to Fiorentina, adding that he was happy with life in the Premier League.
“Personally I don’t know anything, my agent hasn’t told me anything about any rumour and to be honest I don’t know anything about where this comes from,” he told the news provider
“I feel very well at Newcastle, I’ve found myself and I have all my family here with me. I still have two years left on my contract and at the moment I don’t think about changing. I have a wish ... I wish I can stay in the Premier League.”
Santon previously drew comparisons with AC Milan great Paolo Maldini while under Jose Mourinho at Inter and while the defender departed the San Siro after falling out with the Special One, he could one day make a return to the city.
The Rossoneri have been consistently linked with a move for the defender over the past two years and while their abundance of talent in the full-back positions makes an imminent deal unlikely, it would not be a shock to see him one day return to Serie A with the Diavolo.
For now though, Santon appears focus on Newcastle United and the Premier League.
