The latest transfer news and views from Manchester City.

Javi Garcia's move to Zenit St Petersburg has this evening been confirmed by Manchester City, with the 27-year-old ending his two-year spell at the Etihad Stadium.

Garcia will link up with former Chelsea and Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas, who has guided Zenit to four wins out of their opening four Russian Premier League fixtures.

The Spaniard played 71 competitive games for Man City in total.

Elsewhere, another departure was confirmed today, with 19-year-old defender Karim Rekik joining PSV on loan.

Rekik also spent last campaign on loan with the Dutch side, making 31 appearances. This will be his fourth loan spell since joining Manchester City.

In other City news, club captain Vincent Kompany tweeted his joy at extending his contract with Manuel Pellegrini's side earlier today.

Former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard also appeared in a Man City shirt for the first time.

Finally, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes City have one of the strongest 'spines' of a squad in Europe.

"They won the title last year so know they have what it takes; their manager, Manuel Pellegrini, will only be stronger in his second season in charge; and then you have that spine," he told Sky Sports.

"Vincent Kompany, Yaya Toure and Sergio Aguero is the strongest spine in the Premier League and perhaps one of the strongest in Europe, so City’s success will rest on those three."
