Twitter reaction as Tony Pulis exits Crystal Palace: 'Crazy world of football'

Crystal Palace Selhurst Park

Crystal Palace have parted company with Pulis by mutual consent, Palace fans are understandably flabbergasted.

In a astonishing turn of events, reigning Premier League Manager of the season Tony Pulis has left his role as manager of Crystal Palace less than 48 hours before the start of the season.

The Welshman had performed superbly in his short spell in charge of the South London club, having taken over from Ian Holloway in November with the club rooted to the Premier League summit.

Pulis, who has never been relegated in his management career, oversaw 12 wins and 5 draws in his 28 games in charge, meaning his win percentage in the top flight is one of the strongest in the club's history.

Palace ended up finishing in 11th position under the former Stoke supremo, their highest ever Premier League place.

It is rumoured that Pulis left Palace over a dispute with co-chairman Steve Parish over the 56-year-old's say in transfer dealings, with the ex Bristol Rovers and Bournemouth player disappointed with the summer's acquisitions. Palace have signed former Fulham captain Brede Hangeland on a free, and Blackpool's Chris Kettings, as well as recruiting Cardiff City striker Frazier Campbell, and just earlier on Thursday, Martin Kelly from Liverpool.

Unsurprisingly, it has left Crystal Palace fans and followers of the Premier League dumbstruck, with the season opener against Arsenal just around the corner. Assistant manager Keith Millan is now in temporary charge.

It has also left many speculating who will come in at the Eagles, with ex Manchester United and Everton manager David Moyes getting some interest in the betting markets despite his own reputation having taken a knock over the last 12 months. Others mentioned include former Malky Mackay, Neil Lennon and Tim Sherwood.

Below are a list of some choice tweets in relation to the news from Selhurst Park:

What do you make of Pulis's departure? Who do you think should be new Palace boss?
