Will unhappy Chelsea and Arsenal target Sami Khedira land up at Bayern Munich?

Sami Khedira warming up

Could Arsenal and Chelsea linked Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira provide a solution at Bayern Munich?

Arsenal and Chelsea have been linked throughout the summer with Sami Khedira, whose contract with Real Madrid expires next summer.

The midfielder was pictured looking unhappy at not being even named among the substitutes on Tuesday and Carlo Ancelotti's men beat Sevilla 2-0 in the UEFA Super Cup.

Khedira, a German international, is reported by Spanish newspaper Sport to be considering his options, but despite Chelsea and Arsenal being connected by various papers with his signature, neither are to yet make a move.

It may be however, that another club, Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, could decide to enter the race.

Pep Guardiola's side lost 2-0 in the German Super Cup to Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday, and suffered an unwelcome blow with Javi Martinez going down with a serious looking knee injury.

The club confirmed yesterday the Spaniard has suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury, which will take at least six months to heal.

Khedira was injured in similar circumstances last season and recovered in time to feature at the World Cup, but in that time, has fallen out of favour at Real.

A key part of that has been the transfer of Bayern's Toni Kroos to Real, who himself had only one year left on his contract.

With Thiago Alcantara battling fitness issues of his own, a move for Khedira would make sense for Guardiola's Bayern, and allow him a chance to return to his homeland.

Bayern are still reeling from the Martinez news, but Khedira would be both affordable and willing to move, and Real have their hands tied with his contract.

If Arsenal or Chelsea do hold a genuine interest, then moving now before the German giants become involved would be advisable.
