16 goal striker's wage demands stopping Liverpool move

Wilfried Bony's high-wage demands are blocking a move to Liverpool, according to reports.

Liverpool have baulked at Wilfried Bony’s wage demands after trying to deal to sign the striker from Swansea City.

Bony is reportedly on Brendan Rodgers’s wishlist this summer as he targets a replacement for Luis Suarez, who left to join Barcelona earlier in the transfer window.

However, the Ivorian striker is demanding to become one of the highest paid players at the club and the Reds are not prepared to offer that much for a striker who has only one season of the Premier League experience.

Swansea have previously said that they would not stand in Bony’s way if a Champions League club came in for him, but Rodgers's side have not submitted a formal offer for his services as yet.

The thought it that he could be available for around £16 million this summer, which shouldn’t be out of Liverpool’s price-range considering the influx of money that they got for Suarez last summer, but his wage demands are proving to be the stumbling block at the moment.

Rodgers, according to reports, is still optimistic that he will be able to do a deal for the 25-year-old before the end of the transfer window, though.

Bony has been on Liverpool’s radar after his impressive first season in England. His pace and power proved to be a dangerous outlet for Swansea and he managed to score 16 times during the course of the season.

So far this summer Liverpool’s only striking additions have been Divock Origi, who was immediately sent back on loan to Lille, and Rickie Lambert.

Lambert was widely expected to play a back-up role at Anfield this year, but Suarez’s departure and the lack of incoming transfers up-front mean that he could partner Sturridge up-front, despite looking off the pace during the club’s pre-season so far.

Would Bony be a good signing for Liverpool?
