53 games, three goals, four bookings: What Spurs have bought for £2.5m

White Hart Lane 4

Tottenham Hotspur recently completed a deal for DeAndre Yedlin, but what are the numbers behind his career to date?

Tottenham Hotspur’s summer transfer business may not have been as headline-inducing as their exploits from 12 months ago, but that is not necessarily a bad thing.

Spurs have impressed by bringing in talented young signings in vital areas, such as Ben Davies and Eric Dier. And another can be added to that list, even if it will be a while before he steps out at White Hart Lane.

DeAndre Yedlin impressed for the USA at this summer’s World Cup, and he has since agreed a four-year deal with Spurs for a reported fee of £2.5million; although he will remain in the MLS with Seattle Sounders for now.

In the latest in our series on the numbers behind a player’s career to date, we take a closer look at Tottenham’s future right-back:

53 – The number of club appearances Yedlin has made in his career to date. All those games have come for Seattle Sounders.

3 – The number of goals the 21-year-old has scored to date. Not a bad record for a defender, although as he gains experience he will be hoping to add to that tally, considering his effectiveness attacking from the flank.

4 – The number of assists he has provided so far. Again, an impressive record for a young full-back but considering the wide players currently playing at Tottenham, that is an area of Yedlin’s game that Mauricio Pochettino will no doubt work on in due course.

1 – The number of times Yedlin has been sent off in his club career. He has also collected just four yellow cards – an outstanding record for one so young and considering his position on the field.

5 – The number of senior caps Yedlin has for the USA. He made his debut in February 2014, having previously featured four times for his country’s under-20 side.

Verdict – Anyone who saw Yedlin in Brazil this summer will know Tottenham have signed a fantastic prospect for a great price. If the defender continues on his current trajectory he could be tearing down Premier League flanks for years to come, and Spurs could have a new terrace favourite on their hands.

What do you think of Yedlin's signing?
