Liverpool transfer news: Potential Sterling deal; rivals for striker and possible Reus blow

Raheem Sterling

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Liverpool

The reported interest of Real Madrid in Raheem Sterling is one of the reasons cited for an alleged bumper new contract for the England international.

The Mirror reports that Liverpool want to tie the young player down to a new long-term deal with a financial package more in line with his burgeoning reputation.

Sterling is being tipped by many to have an even better campaign than his last, as he looks to step up in the absence of Luis Suarez.

In other news, the Daily Star claims Liverpool could miss out on reported target Samuel Eto’o with Dutch club Ajax eager to take the Cameroon striker to Holland.

The former Chelsea player was the surprise name linked with a possible move to Anfield earlier this week, but Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf claims Ajax also have their eye on him.

And finally, following claims Atletico Madrid want to sign Marco Reus from Borussia Dortmund, the Metro has taken that story and suggested the Reds will have to move fast if they want to secure a reported long-term target.

There is no doubt Reus would be an outstanding addition to Liverpool’s squad, but it is unlikely that Jurgen Klopp will sanction a move for his best player.

Would you like to see Eto'o at Liverpool? Should the Reds do all they can to sign Reus?
