VfL Wolfsburg fans ... brace yourselves! Because Nicklas Bendtner has now been officially unveiled as the club's latest signing.
The Bundesliga side, who missed out on Champions League football by one place last campaign, have made it clear they were after a big name striker this summer. The likes of Mario Mandzukic and Romelu Lukaku were mentioned. But in the end they have opted for the big Dane to score the goals next term.
Bendtner was a free agent after his contract expired at Arsenal this summer - where he was making more headlines off the pitch then on it at the time of his departure. Known for his party lifestyle, obsession with art and, more recently, posting pictures of himself sunbathing with only a discarded bra to protect his crown jewels from UV rays - he has become something of a cult hero in the Premier League.
Wolfsburg director of sport Klaus Allofs certainly alluded to the former Arsenal star's chequered past when announcing the deal today:
"Nicklas Bendtner is at the very best possible age for a striker. During his career – which wasn’t always so straightforward – he managed to gather a great deal of international experience and he adds further quality to our attack.“
Known as 'Lord Bendtner' by most of his fans on Instagram and Twitter his uber-confident personality has made him popular over the years.
But all joking aside Bendtner does have ability, there is no doubt of that, and the Bundesliga is a league which will suit his playing style - should he get regular football with his new club.
Arsenal fans, and Arsene Wenger, may be glad to see the back of him, even if they enjoyed having him around, but Wolfsburg fans will now need to get behind their new lord of the manor.
Will Bendtner be a hit in Germany?
