Report: Benatia tells teammates he isn't joining Chelsea

Mehdi Benatia playing for Morocco

According to Il Tempo, Roma defender Mehdi Benatia has told teammates that he won't be signing for Chelsea.

Mehdi Benatia is looking increasingly likely to stay at Roma with reports suggesting he has told his fellow players that he isn't leaving for Stamford Bridge.

The Italian press were adamant earlier in the week that Chelsea had tabled a £30 million bid, which Roma would be unable to refuse.

But Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has denied making a move and Roma coach Rudi Garcia has laughed the speculation off.

It is now being suggested that Roma will sell off one of Mattia Destro or Adem Ljajic instead in order to balance the books and keep Benatia.

Reports from Il Tempo state that Benatia was questioned on his future by Roma players at a team meal on Wednesday evening.

An unnamed player is alleged to have said: "Haven't they sold you to Chelsea already?", to which Benatia reportedly replied: "I'm not leaving."

Despite a transfer steadily becoming a more distant possibility, Roma fans will still breathe a sigh of relief once the transfer window closes.
