The top five players linked with Arsenal this week – Manolas, M’bia and more

Arsene Wenger Press Conference Smiling - 16/02/2014

Players continue to be linked with Arsenal, including an ex-Queens Park Rangers man and stars from Manchester City, Olympiakos, PSG and Real Madrid.

Arsenal may have already completed an impressive amount of summer spending, but that has not stopped the rumours that Arsene Wenger’s business is far from over.

Following the sale of Thomas Vermaelen to Barcelona and with a new defensive midfielder still surely high on the Gunners’ wanted-list, players who cover those positions have found themselves linked with Arsene Wenger’s side in the last week.

Here we take a look at five of the best:

Sami Khedira (Real Madrid)

This one refuses to go away, and why should it? After all, Arsenal are in need of a quality defensive midfielder and there are few out there as impressive as the German international.

Many Gunners fans believe it would be a better move to sign Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho, but those rumours have died down somewhat (at least for now) while the Khedira links continue.

Matija Nastasic (Manchester City)

Following Eliaquim Mangala’s arrival at Manchester City rumours abound that Matija Nastasic could be on his way; and Arsenal have been tipped as a possible destination.

The 21-year-old Serbian was blighted by injury last season, but he is extremely talented and it would be a surprise if City let him go permanently.

Kostas Manolas (Olympiakos)

Another defender linked with an Emirates switch is Kostas Manolas. The Olympiakos player is another tipped to replace Vermaelen at Arsenal (despite the presence of the impressive Calum Chambers) and reports claim Wenger will have to pay at least £8million for the 23-year-old.

Stephane M’Bia (Unattached)

This was a left-field rumour that first arrived on Thursday: Arsenal linked with free-agent and former Queens Park Rangers midfielder Stephane M’Bia.

The 28-year-old certainly covers the area of the pitch Wenger needs to strengthen, and the Frenchman has shown he is not averse to a surprise move as demonstrated by Kim Kallstrom’s arrival last season.

Edinson Cavani (Paris Saint-Germain)

Not a midfielder or a defender, but still a darling of the rumour mill, Arsenal were linked with a big-money move for the Paris Saint-Germain forward.

Wenger has since gone on record to praise the strength of his front-line and rule out a move for any more strikers. But just imagine what Cavani could do playing with Alexis Sanchez!

Who would you like to see arrive at Arsenal before the transfer window closes?
