Wales international midfielder Aaron Ramsey scores in injury time to help Arsenal to a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League.

Arsenal kicked off their 2014-15 Premier League campaign with a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

The Gunners were expected to win the clash with ease and did dominate the opening stages, with Alexis Sanchez, Yaya Sanogo and Jack Wilshere all going close in the first 30 minutes.

However, it was Palace who made the breakthrough at the Emirates much against the run of play in the 35th minute when Brede Hangeland headed home Jason Puncheon’s corner from close range.

The visitors’ lead lasted for just 10 minutes, though, as Arsenal equalised on the stroke of half time. Sanchez floated in a brilliant ball from a free-kick situation for Laurent Koscielny to head home from just yards out.

Arsenal stepped up their urgency in the second half and marched forward in droves in an effort to score the game’s third goal.

However, Arsene Wenger’s side failed to break down a resolute Palace defence as the match wore on, as Sanchez and Aaron Ramsey both were thwarted by the Eagles’ goalkeeper Julian Speroni.

Palace were reduced to 10 men in the 89th minute when Puncheon was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Arsenal took advantage of their numerical advantage in stoppage time when Ramsey popped up in the first minute of injury time to shot home from close range.
