Arsenal get their Premier League campaign started this evening with a London derby against managerless Crystal Palace.
The Gunners finally ended their nine-year trophy drought with the 3-2 FA Cup final win over Hull City in May, and followed that up with the 3-0 thrashing of title rivals Manchester City in the Community Shield on Sunday. Add in that around £60m has been spent on new signings David Ospina, Mathieu Debuchy, Calum Chambers and Alexis Sanchez, and it's clear that expectations around North London have risen ahead of the new season.
Their opponents today are Crystal Palace, whose start to the season has been thrown into chaos after the departure of manager Tony Pulis just 48 hours before kick off. Pulis has reportedly quit the Selhurst Park side over a lack of transfer funds, but the Eagles have managed to add Martin Kelly, Brede Hangeland and Frazier Campbell, and will once again be looking to stay in the Premier League having miraculously survived last season.
Assistant boss Keith Millen will take charge, but given the disarray Palace are currently in, it's going to be a hard task to keep the Gunners at bay, with Arsene Wenger's side looking to build on the win over City last week.
