Tottenham Hotspur beat London neighbours West Ham United at Upton Park this afternoon, as new signing Eric Dier grabbed an injury time winner.

West Ham and Spurs renewed their rivalry this afternoon at Upton Park, with Mauricio Pochettino getting off to the perfect start as Tottenham boss with a 1-0 win.

The Hammers started with new signings Enner Valencia and Mauro Zarate on the bench, as manager Sam Allardyce decided to go with Carlton Cole as a loan striker, with Ricardo Vaz Te, Kevin Nolan and Stewart Downing supporting him.

Despite the omission of West Ham's two big name additions, the Hammers peppered the Spurs goal throughout amidst calls for Allardyce to play a more attractive brand of football. They had the perfect chance to take the lead when Kyle Naughton was harshly given a straight red card for handball from Kevin Nolan's shot, but midfielder Mark Noble couldn't convert from the penalty spot, rolling the ball wide to keep the score at 0-0.

The sides were levelled up in the second half as centre back James Collins was also sent off for a second yellow card, making it 10 vs 10 for the final 30 minutes of the match.

With time running out on both sides in search of winner, it was new Spurs signing Eric Dier - who had been moved to right back after Naughton's dismissal - who raced clean through on goal before rounding goalkeeper Adrian and tapping into the empty net.

It's the perfect start for Pochettino, but West Ham must be worried that some of their problems from last season will persist this time around.
