QPR star Joey Barton praises 'fantastic' Glenn Hoddle appointment

Joey Barton is one person pleased with the arrival of Glenn Hoddle at Loftus Road.

QPR are about to embark on a Premier League season once again and opening day has not been kind to them in recent years. Their last two Premier League first days at the office ended in 4-0 and 5-0 defeats - something they will aim to avoid this time around.

In order to do just that Harry Redknapp and Tony Fernandes have conducted some great business in the transfer market. The arrivals of Rio Ferdinand, Steven Caulker, Jordon Mutch and Mauricio Isla make them a really strong team - one many are backing to survive.

But they made another new addition this week, Glenn Hoddle joining the coaching staff at Loftus Road. The Tottenham legend has become First Team coach at the club - a job fellow former England manager Steve McClaren held briefly last season.

And one person excited about his arrival is Joey Barton. The mercurial midfielder has spoken about Hoddle's arrival on his website this morning, and is clearly pleased with his arrival:

"Then there’s the fact we’ve just added Glen Hoddle to the coaching set-up, which is fantastic. The experience he brings, the style he’s known for and the insightful way he decodes the game will be an amazing addition to the collective effort. For me, the last proper England team we had, the last one that played with any style, passion and flourish was the team Glenn managed in France 98 – the only reason that team never got further was Beckham’s petulant kick at Simeone, and the fact that we had to go to pens."

QPR get their Premier League campaign underway this afternoon against Hull City at Loftus Road.

Can Barton be a star for QPR this season?
