Gary Lineker: If Arsenal want the title, this is what they need most

Wenger

The former Tottenham and England striker again found himself discussing the Gunners on Twitter.

Gary Lineker believes Arsenal need a top-class striker - not another midfielder - if they are to challenge for the Premier League title again.

The north London side have this summer strengthened their squad with the £35 million signing of Alexis Sanchez, although many believe they still require a defensive midfielder.

However, Lineker, who recently predicted that the Gunners will run Chelsea close for the Premier League title, has voiced his opinion on where Arsene Wenger's side need to strengthen.

According to the Match of the Day host, Arsenal need a new striker to challenge Yaya Sanogo and Olivier Giroud for a first-team place.

Lineker's comments came during Arsenal's Premier League opener with Crystal Palace, which Sanogo started.

The 21-year-old scored four goals in one match against Benfica in pre-season but underwhelmed against Palace when it mattered.

Giroud, meanwhile, has long been the subject of criticism from Arsenal, while Alexis Sanchez is not an out-and-out striker.

The Gunners' next Premier League action comes at Everton, although they travel to Besiktas before that for the first leg of their Champions League play-off.

Do you agree with Lineker - do Arsenal need a striker more than a midfielder?
