Gary Neville predicts two more United signings before the end of the month

Gary Neville believes Manchester United will make two more signings before the transfer window closes.

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville believes Louis van Gaal will add two more players to his new side before the transfer windows closes.

The Red Devils still appear light in defence and midfield and their frailties were exposed on the opening day of the season as they lost 2-1 at home to Swansea City.

Rio Ferdinand, Patrice Evra and Nemanja Vidic all departed Old Trafford over the summer and despite their age, their experience at the back was vital for the club’s young players.

In their absence, van Gaal lined up with an inexperienced back-line for his first Premier League game of the season which included rookie Tyler Blackett.

As a result, Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville is adamant more faces will arrive as the club seeks an immediate boost in personnel.

“For van Gaal this first season is about instilling principles. To a large degree he may be happy to start with the squad he already has, rather than deal with an influx while also getting to know the current team.

“A big shopping trip would make a difficult situation even harder. But I do believe Manchester United will deliver in the next two weeks and bring two players in, which will protect the club against the criticism that would follow a run of underwhelming results.” He wrote in his blog for the Telegraph.

Among those heavily linked with a move to Manchester is Sporting Lisbon’s highly-rated left-back Marcos Rojo.

The Argentine international is said to have already held talks with van Gaal and appears keen on a move after reportedly handing in a transfer request.

A second possible deal, however, appears to be more complicated after reported targets Arturo Vidal and Angel Di Maria both returned to first-team duties with their respective clubs during the past week.
