United target Clasie to join Porto for €9m, president confirms on Twitter

Jordy Clasie

Jordy Clasie is set to join FC Porto from Feyenoord this weekend.

Feyenoord have a history of selling their top players and this summer has been no different. They lost both Bruno Martins Indi and Daryl Janmaat, the two Netherlands internationals who starred at the World Cup this summer, to Porto and Newcastle United respectively.

But when it came to their star player, the 'Dutch Xavi' in Jordy Clasie, they were certain they were not selling.

Clasie has been linked with a move to both Manchester United and Southampton this summer - but the Dutch side were certain they would not be letting him go:

"Jordy is very happy at Feyenoord and we have no intention of selling him. A transfer is not really a must for him. I don’t expect too much to happen around him. We are willing to go the extra mile to hold on to him and the rest of the team."

They have been adamant Clasie is staying, which saw the interest from Manchester United and Southampton quickly dissipate.

But now it looks like Feyenoord are selling the player - with FC Porto set to snap him up according to reports in Portugal.

The news was broken by Feyenoord's president Ron Smit last night via his official Twitter account, as he stated:

"Worst news: Clasie sold to Porto for nine million."

The deal has not yet been officially announced but it is believed to be a matter of a medical away, leaving the 'Dutch Xavi' on his way to Portugal.

Will Clasie be a star in Portugal?
