£8m Arsenal target Manolas misses pre-season friendly amid medical talk

Kostas Manolas appears to be on his way out of Olympiakos, will he join Arsenal?

Arsenal flogged Thomas Vermaelen a week ago, selling him to Barcelona for a fee in the region of £15 million. Arsene Wenger has now admitted the club are looking to replace him in the squad, despite the excellent start to his Emirates career from Calum Chambers.

With that in mind they have been linked with a heap of central defensive options, including Greek international Kostas Manolas.

The talented Olympiakos player has reportedly been linked with an £8 million move to Arsenal - however Bayern Munich and Manchester United are also believed to be keen on his signature.

Last night however Goal were reporting that Arsenal had won the race for the player, suggesting he was having a medical with the club.

While that may be just a rumour for now there was a big hint that Manolas was indeed on the move - after he missed Olympiakos' pre-season friendly against Fenerbahce.

The Greek side lost 2-1 to their Turkish rivals after a goal from former Newcastle United player Emre Belezoglu. However their back-line did not contain Manolas, who was also not on the bench, as it looks increasingly as if he will be leaving the club this summer - with Arsenal a potential destination.

This week Olympiakos sporting director Christophe Karembeu confirmed that Manolas could leave the club, stating:

"In the last few days, interesting proposals have arrived from England. We are not willing to negotiate his sale for less than £8million. If we receive the right offer, we are willing to sell him."

So it seems if Arsenal stump up the cash they will have their defensive cover well and truly sorted with this talented 23-year-old star of the future.

Is Manolas the right option for Olympiakos?
