Chelsea goalkeeper 'ready' for opening game

Petr Cech

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech takes to twitter to state that he is ready for Monday’s Premier League clash against Burnley.

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has been linked with a move away from the club for much of this summer because of the competition he will face from Thibaut Courtois.

The 32-year-old Czech Republic international has been at Stamford Bridge since 2004 and has been the undisputed number one between the sticks until now.

During his three-year loan spell at Atletico Madrid, Courtois established himself as the best young goalkeeper in the world and is now looking set to dislodge Cech from his position.

However, the Belgium international may have to wait a little longer to make his competitive debut for Chelsea.

That’s because Cech could retain his place in the Blues’ starting line-up for their opening Premier League game of the season against Burnley away from home on Monday.

The former Sparta Prague and Rennes star took to social networking site Twitter on Sunday to express his eagerness to start the 2014-15 season, hinting that he could feature at Turf Moor.

Of course, just like the rest of his teammates, Cech is looking forward to getting their campaign started, but it could well be that he has been intimated by Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho that he will start against Burnley – perhaps that’s why he is ‘getting ready’.

Mourinho has publicly refused to reveal who will be in goal on Monday, stating: ‘What is my first choice today might not be my first choice tomorrow, it depends on performance, but if the goalkeeper gives stability to the team, I don't feel the reason to change or to play one in one competition and one in another competition’.

Whoever plays on Monday, Mourinho will watch from the dugout safe in the knowledge that he has two of the world’s best goalkeepers in his squad.

Who should start for Chelsea against Burnley: Petr Cech or Thibaut Courtois?
