Manchester United plot £200,000 per week wage offer to World Cup star

Angel Di Maria

Manchester United want to offer Angel di Maria a staggering £200,000 a week to convince him to join.

Ed Woodward promised Manchester United fans he will pay what it takes to sign the players the club want, yet they wait still.

Ever since he uttered the infamous words 'watch this space', pressure has been building on the chief executive to deliver, magnified by an opening Premier League defeat at home to Swansea.

The club have been linked to Angel di Maria all summer, and The Mail report that United are to step up their pursuit - and will offer a staggering £200,000 per week wage.

"It is understood that United have told the Argentina international that, once performance-related incentives are taken in to account, they will pay him in the region of £200,000-a-week to put him in the same ball park as current attacking stars Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie."

The paper go onto claim that the overall cost of a deal for the the Real Madrid star could cost £100 million.

Di Maria has been linked with a move away from the Bernabeu for 12 months, and there have been conflicting reports on his willingness to move anywhere.

Yet a financial package like that for the winger, who provided 17 La Liga assists last season, is a sizeable one which could be a game-changer for him.

Teammate Cristiano Ronaldo is said to be trying to persuade Di Maria to stay at Madrid, yet he will understand the pulling power of United.

With no Champions League football on offer this season, a dependency on finance to push through deals like this, may however be essential for the club.

Would Di Maria solve United's problems?
