New Barcelona signing Claudio Bravo has admitted talking to Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez before opting to move to the Nou Camp.
After Spanish international goalkeeper Victor Valdes decided to walk away from the club when his contract expired last summer, Barca were on the hunt for a new goalkeeper this term.
Marc-Andre ter Stegen was brought in from Borussia Monchengladbach for a reported €12 million, though the Catalans weren’t to finish there as they required competition for the German international.
Chilean ace Claudio Bravo was sounded out by the Nou Camp outfit following a successful eight-year spell at La Liga rivals Real Sociedad.
Knowing that first-team football wasn’t a given and it was a risky career move, Bravo spoke to his friend and international teammate Alexis Sanchez regarding a potential move and admitted how the Gunners star gave him a vote of confidence.
Bravo: "I talked with Alexis about Barcelona. He's not a big talker, but he told me I would be perfectly fine at Barça." [rac1]— barcastuff (@barcastuff) agosto 15, 2014
Arsenal’s new forward isn’t renowned for talking to the press or getting involved in such football-related issues, but in this instance his nudge of persuasion could be seen as a parting gift to Barca after three successful seasons at the club.
The 25-year-old moved to Spain from Udinese in 2011 and went on to represent the club 141 times in all competitions, scoring 47 goals.
Last season, Sanchez provided his best return as he notched 19 La Liga goals in 34 games and new boss Arsene Wenger will be hoping of a repeat performance at the Emirates this campaign.
