Arsenal injury news: Wenger confirms defender and striker left at home

Kieran Gibbs

Two Arsenal stars who started against Crystal Palace did not travel for the trip to Besiktas.

Yaya Sanogo and Kieran Gibbs will miss the club's tie with Besiktas, Arsene Wenger has confirmed.

The Frenchman confirmed that the duo who started the club's opening Premier League game of the season, were left at home for the Champions League qualifier.

Nacho Monreal will therefore be expected to start at left-back for the match on Tuesday night, while Olivier Giroud will likely start up front for the Gunners.

Arsenal were handed an injury boost earlier in the day, when centre-back Laurent Koscielny was passed fit to feature.

Per Mertesacker has therefore not travelled as was previously suggested, left behind with Mesut Ozil and Lukas Podolski due to fitness reasons.
