Elland Road Revie Stand

We bring you all you need to know about Leeds United's summer transfer target, Adryan.

Leeds United are reportedly ‘very close’ to completing the signing of highly reputed youngster, Adryan.

It is a deal which has caused much excitement around Elland Road – with a fee of around £5 million being touted as what would be required to secure the 20-year-old’s services.

It would be a statement of intent if Leeds were able to land Adryan, who been compared to a young Kaka before, and here is everything else you need to know about Leeds United’s new potential acquisition.

1) Adryan may only be 20-years-old, but he has already been identified as one of his country’s top prospects. He was part of their under 17 side at the 2011 World Cup, where they finished fourth, and he scored five times in the competition from a playmaking role. As a result Europe’s top clubs came looking and he has already rejected a move to Manchester United previously in his career, according to reports.

2) Adryan has a reputation as a dead-ball specialist, but he is also very handy from open play. As is to be expected with a Brazilian, he is comfortable in possession, but he is also very adept at making late runs into the box and has a lethal finish. He scored his first professional goal when he was 16, from a free-kick for Flamengo.

3) Popular football blog In Bed With Maradona selected Adryan in their list of the top 100 youngsters in world football. In the report they focused much of their writing on his time with Flamengo, but there were concerns that his career was showing signs that it could be heading in the wrong direction recently. One Brazilian football expert, called James Young, wrote: "Flamengo fans talk of the “next Zico” like Manchester United fans (used to) talk of the “next George Best”, and at the moment, Adryan’s chances of inheriting the mantle are looking rather more Russell Beardsmore than Ryan Giggs. He has started just two games in the Brasileirão this year [2013], and was booed when taken off during a recent game with Goiás."

4) Massimo Cellino knows all about Adryan because he brought him to Italy last season, persuading the youngster to sign a loan-deal with Cagliari. The outspoken owner has already described the Brazilian wonderkid as a “special talent” this week, so he was clearly impressed by what he saw.

5) In Brazil Adrian is known as herdeiro de Zico - translated as the heir to Zico - showing just how highly regarded he is in his homeland.

The facts show just how exciting a transfer he could be and Adryan’s arrival would surely be the most intriguing Football League buy of the summer.
