HEAD-TO-HEAD: Fabregas v Herrera - Which star had the better debut?

Spain Flag

Chelsea's Cesc Fabregas and Manchester United's Ander Herrera have now both made their Premier League debuts, with one significantly outshining the other.

Herrera V FabregasChelsea and Manchester United both signed Spanish midfielders this summer in the form of Cesc Fabregas and Ander Herrera respectively.

And when you consider the two stars’ Premier League debuts, it seems one club got a significantly better deal than the other.

Of course that is an easy – and somewhat lazy – assumption to make after just 90 minutes of football. Plus there is the fact that Fabregas knows the English top flight like the back of his hand while Herrera has it all to learn.

But when you consider only the two players’ debuts for their new clubs, there is no doubt Chelsea have signed a ready-made catalyst for a season of possible success while United have bought a work in progress.

Herrera’s debut against Swansea City did not go according to plan, with Garry Monk’s side putting a downer on Louis van Gaal’s first competitive match in charge and the Spaniard failing to create a chance of note.

In comparison, Fabregas set up two of Chelsea’s goals in their 3-1 win over Burnley and playing three more key passes to boot.

He also played 27 forward passes compared with Herrera’s 11 (although the latter left the pitch after just 67 minutes on Saturday).

Fabregas also bossed the field in terms of touches for Chelsea, receiving the ball 104 times compared with Herrera’s 49.

The season is long and Herrera has the talent to become a United great in the years to come. But for now it is a learning curve; something Chelsea do not have to endure with Fabregas, who looks like he has plenty to prove following his return to London.

Who do you think got the better deal this summer: Chelsea or United?
