Newcastle eyeing move for Manchester City pair

Micah Richards

Manchester City pair Micah Richards and Scott Sinclair are up for sale, with Newcastle United reportedly a potential destination for the English duo.

Newcastle United are eyeing a double swoop for Manchester City duo Micah Richards and Scott Sinclair, according to the Manchester Evening News.

City manager Manuel Pellegrini has reportedly told the pair to seek out a move, along with Matija Nastasic and John Guidetti, with their being few opportunities of first-team action in the club’s star-studded squad.

‘We will see what happens, but we have until the end of August to see what kind of offers we get for Matija,’ he told the press.

‘That also goes for Micah Richards, who didn't want to continue here because he wants to play more. He had a contract to renew, but didn't want it.

‘So we have three or four players extra - Scott Sinclair and John Guidetti are also important players - but I don't like to have so many in the squad.

‘I think 22 players is enough and they are all players, who have a lot of quality. It is good for them to play.’

Richards made just 10 appearances for City last season, the majority in cup competitions, and is set to face another struggle for minutes this term, with Pablo Zabaleta and Bacary Sanga battling it out for the right-back spot.

The former England international has already been linked with Newcastle for some time, and has most recently attracted interest from Roma, but a £5 million move to the north east is thought to be a more likely scenario.

Sinclair, meanwhile, has been restricted to three starts in 14 appearances for the club since joining from Swansea City in August 2012, spending the 2013-14 campaign on loan at West Bromwich Albion, where he again struggled for playing time.

The 25-year-old winger enjoyed a reasonably impressive pre-season but remains far down the pecking order, with Aston Villa one of the clubs said to have been courting his signature last month.

Pardew, however, is reportedly a big admirer of the former Chelsea youngster since taking him on loan while at Charlton Athletic in 2008, and could well offer him the chance to reignite his once-promising career at St James’ Park, along with Richards.
