Having grown up watching Roy Keane star for Manchester United, Carlos Sanchez says the Aston Villa assistant manager will be the ideal midfield tutor for him.

New Aston Villa midfielder Carlos Sanchez says assistant manager Roy Keane can help him become a Premier League star.

Signed from La Liga side Elche last week for £4.7 million, the Colombian appeared in four of his side’s five World Cup games this summer, having won 44 caps since his 2007 debut, with his impressive performances also inviting interest from Queens Park Rangers and Everton.

Nicknamed “The Rock”, due to his solidity in the holding role, the 28-year-old is well-known for his tenacious attitude on the pitch, much like Keane, and thus believes that the Manchester United legend will make an excellent tutor.

‘Of course it helps to have a world-class midfielder like Roy Keane here,’ he said at his first official press conference.

‘He was a big player for Manchester United and I used to watch him play on the TV when I was kid growing up in Colombia.

‘He’s certainly got some advice to give to me. I’m very receptive to what great players like Roy Keane and Paul Lambert have to teach me.’

Having lacked a true defensive midfielder in the lineup for the past few seasons, Sanchez arrives at Villa to fill a long-time problem area for the club, and the former Valenciennes star could be in line to make his English top-flight debut on the weekend against Newcastle United.

Will Sanchez prove a hit at Aston Villa?
