Former Tottenham prospect Valentinos Sielis looking to dump Spurs out of Europe

White Hart Lane 6

Valentinos Sielis played with both clubs as a kid. But he will face Tottenham Hotspur for AEL Limassol this week.

When Tottenham Hotspur saw their draw for the play-off round of the Europa League they were probably ecstatic with their opponents. The name AEL Limassol does not exactly strike fear into the eyes of Premier League footballers.

The Cyrpiot side would also have been pleased with the draw. They will relish the chance to take on Premier League opposition, for many it will be the highlight of their career. For one player, it will be a chance to show what he is made of. Because, interestingly, there is a former Tottenham youth team prospect in the AEL squad - Valentinos Sielis.

Sielis, a Cyprus international utility player with three caps, started off his English career at Arsenal at the age of 11 but moved to Tottenham one year later. He stayed at the club until 2007, when, at the age of 17 he decided to join Doncaster Rovers. He left them in 2008, returning to Cyprus to play for Enosis Neon Thoi Lakatamia.

So plenty of English connections then. Indeed, his little brother Christos is still on the books for The Gunners.

Now 24-years-old the former Spurs youngster, who would have likely played with names such as Danny Rose, Andros Townsend and Ryan Mason during his time at the club, has been on the move again this summer.

He left Cypriot rivals Anorthosis Famagusta on a free transfer in order to join AEL, where bizarrely he is already considered a hero.

In a game between Anorthosis and AEL in April of this year, while still an Anorthosis player, he was widely commended for saving the life of AEL opponent Andrija Kaluderovic by giving fast and effective first-aid after a sickening head injury.

Now Sielis is an AEL player and hoping to feature in a Europa League game against the team where he simply didn't cut it. And he would love to send Tottenham crashing out of Europe.

Can Sielis damage his former club?
