Arsenal’s Champions League campaign didn’t start in the most ideal circumstances last night as the side drew 0-0 with Besiktas in Turkey.
Although the draw isn’t a disastrous result for the Gunners, with Turkish opposition being famously tough to beat at home, Arsene Wenger would have been hoping that his side’s qualification for the group-stages was slightly more secure.
Arsenal host Besiktas on Tuesday knowing that they must win if they are to qualify for Europe’s elite competition.
It is an achievable task, but it could be a nervy night if Slavan Bilic’s men do pick up an away goal, due to the Gunner’s failure to score in Istanbul last night.
The challenge of winning is also made harder due to the loss of Aaron Ramsey, who will be suspended for the second-leg after being sent off yesterday.
Arsenal didn’t pose too much of a threat to their Turkish opponents and they will know they will have to attack with greater creativity and pace next week.
Indeed, it was actually Besiktas who looked the more likely victors with Demba Ba coming close on a number of occasions, but a draw was probably a fair reflection of the match in the end.
