How QPR hold the key to Cheick Tiote's Newcastle future

Cheick Tiote

The west London side's interest in Lassana Diarra could decide whether the Ivorian stays with the Magpies this season.

Queens Park Rangers could hold the key to Cheick Tiote's Newcastle United future.

Sounds bizarre, doesn't it? But it's true.

While the Rs aren't themselves interested in the Ivorian, Harry Redknapp is reportedly tracking Lokomotiv Moscow midfielder Lassana Diarra.

The Frenchman, once of Chelsea, Arsenal and Real Madrid, is expected to leave Russia, with QPR very much a touted destination.

Redknapp has already added Jordon Mutch to his ranks, while Leroy Fer has become the latest midfielder to move to Loftus Road.

But here's where the plot thickens. Tiote is the Moscow club's preferred replacement for Diarra - but Newcastle don't want to sell.

Well, they don't want to sell for less than £8 million, anyway, with reports suggesting they have already rejected a bid from the Russian side.

So should QPR sign Diarra, it'll be a case of how much they are willing to pay.

With Lokomotiv aware of the Magpies' stance on Tiote, they will be keen to get as much cash out of the west London side as they can. Should they raise enough, a big offer for Tiote will likely tempt Mike Ashley.

If not, the 28-year-old won't be leaving Tyneside. It's as simple as that.

Will Tiote stay at St James' Park this season?
