Balague on Khedira: Mourinho 'reluctant' because of 'personal deal' with Arsenal

Sami Khedira

Guillem Balague has given an update on the transfer saga of Sami Khedira, involving Chelsea and Arsenal.

This morning Arsene Wenger fuelled speculation of an impending bid for Sami Khedira after admitting the club were open to buying a midfielder in the wake of Mikel Arteta's ankle injury.

The club have been strongly linked with the German World Cup winner all summer, despite Wenger remaining stand offish on the claims when asked.

Khedira has entered the final year of his contract with Real Madrid and the club have to balance the books to fall in line with FFP. This has become an even more pressing issue since the big summer signings of James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos.

Khedira is also believed to be keen on an exit. This month has already seen him left out of the UEFA Super Cup and Spanish Super Cup squads, despite being available for selection.

Real, not wanting to lose out on a player for free, are therefore set to sell - with Arsenal consistently being the number one team linked to his signature.

But Arsenal are not the only team rumoured to be interested. Bayern Munich have made their position clear this week through Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and the other team linked have been Premier League rivals Chelsea.

Khedira was a favourite of Mourinho's when he was Real boss and Khedira was also a fan of his - publicly condemning his critics when he left in the summer of 2013.

But now Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has given an update on the situation, highlighting why Mourinho does not want to get involved with his former player. Because he believes, as do Marca, that Khedira already has an arrangement in place with Arsenal:

He also claims that Real want to sell him rather than extend his deal. Recent reports have suggested they could slash his asking price by more than half in order to necessitate a move.

So could Arsenal do what they did with his good friend Mesut Ozil, and wait till deadline day for a cut-price midfield operative? Time will tell.

Should Arsenal sign Khedira?
