Philippe Coutinho says that Steven Gerrard was a major help for him when he joined the club and helped him settle.

Philippe Coutinho has paid testament to the squad harmony at Liverpool since he has joined the club and says Steven Gerrard helped him settle in.

Now an established member of the first-team, Coutinho says that finding a squad which was so united and welcoming when he joined Anfield is a major reason he has found his feet so quickly in England.

The Brazilian midfielder completed a move to Merseyside from Inter in 2013 and he paid special tribute to Steven Gerrard – saying that the Reds legend’s attitude really helped him adapt.

"I found a family when I first arrived here,” he said. “This club really is like a family and this helped me feel very comfortable when I first came to Liverpool."

"Playing alongside great players such as our captain, Steven Gerrard, and seeing how simple, humble and hard-working people they are also helped me learn and feel comfortable here."

Coutinho is now one of Brendan Rodgers’ key attacking stars and is a vital player in their current squad.

He has won many admirers with his dribbling skill, which is matched with an innate ability to spot runs of his teammates before others during his time at Anfield and they will be reliant on him maintaining his form if they are to retain their Champions League status this year.

Coutinho started in the club’s first-game of the season against Southampton, but will know that he needs to have more impact in the future.

The Reds rather stumbled to the three points in their opener for the 2014/15 campaign, with Coutinho off the pitch at the time when the winner came – after he was substituted for Rickie Lambert late on.

He has received some better news this week, though, with the announcement that he has been placed in the Brazil squad for their upcoming friendlies.

The diminutive playmaker was left out of their World Cup squad, to many peoples’ surprise, but has now gained international recognition and will be hoping that his club form keeps him firmly in view of the Selecao’s boss, Dunga’s, plans for the future.

How crucial is Coutinho for this current Liverpool side?
