Tottenham latest, Napoli step up Sandro interest, Europa League build-up

A selection of the latest stories involving Tottenham Hotspur this Thursday afternoon, ahead of their Europa League tie with AEL Limassol.

Napoli are ready to step up their interest in Tottenham midfielder Sandro according to TalkSport.

Sandro has been linked with a move away for some time, with reports stretching back to the second half of last season indicating he wanted to swap White Hart Lane for Serie A.

It is believed that Napoli are stepping up their interest after an ankle injury sustained by one of their other targets in Marouane Fellaini from Manchester United.

One player that Tottenham have been linked to in the past week is former Arsenal midfielder Alex Song, who is currently at Barcelona.

However, the London Evening Standard has reported that Song's £9.4 million salary demands may put Spurs off making a move for the Cameroon international.

Andros Townsend has been speaking about how tonight's game with Cypriot side AEL Limassol is an opportunity to impress, and something he is looking forward to.

Townsend has recently been linked with a move to Southampton, with reports suggesting the Saints have bid £10 million for the winger, but Spurs have been unwilling to entertain their approach.

The player is quoted in the Daily Mail, saying: "No matter what game you're playing in, as long as you're playing in front of the first-team manager there's always opportunities to impress, whether it's a training match or a Europa League match. I did that last year and hopefully some of the boys who are on the bench this year can do the same."

Head Coach Mauricio Pochettino is quoted by the Tottenham website talking about the difficulty that tonight's opposition pose, having ran Zenit St Petersburg close in the Champions League.

He said: “It was difficult for Zenit to progress in the Champions League. It’s a tough game in special conditions, 30 degrees heat, it’s difficult for us but we are ready to compete.

“It’s special, the Europa League and we know if you win you have the possibility to play in the Champions League, but it’s important to go step by step and to focus on AEL because every game is tough.”
