British-led transfer speculation linking Mario Balotelli with a return to the Premier League has been picked up by the Italian press.
Brendan Rodgers's Reds were believed to have offered AC Milan £17.5 million for the controversial striker but the move was swiftly dismissed by club vice-president Adriano Galliani, who said, as quoted by The Guardian: "We have not received any offer from Liverpool at this time. We will see… the transfer market ends on September 1."
Liverpool recently sold Luis Suarez to Barcelona for £65 million but, despite importing Rickie Lambert from Southampton, there is merit in the rumours that the club remain in the market for an elite-level striker as there are indications that Rodgers is willing to spend £10 million just to have the luxury of enjoying AS Monaco hotshot Radamel Falcao on loan for a year.
Liverpool could have a proven Premier League striker on a temporary or permanent basis as Corriere dello Sport write that the club "are ready to make an offer of a one year loan" with the right to sign the Italian at the end of the deal.
"Mario Balotelli could return to the Premier League." the paper writes.
