Leicester boss gives update on pursuit of Cambiasso

Cambiasso Jersey Inter

Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson has admitted that the club's lengthy pursuit of ex-Inter Milan midfielder Esteban Cambiasso could come up short if talks don't progress soon.

Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson says he’s unsure if a deal for former Inter Milan midfielder Esteban Cambiasso will happen before the close of the transfer window.

Cambiasso left Inter this summer after making 427 total appearances during his 10 seasons at the club, winning five Serie A titles, the Coppa Italia four times, and the Champions League and Club World Cup in 2010.

Having been linked to the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa earlier this summer, Leicester have been negotiating with the ex-Argentina international’s representatives for several weeks, but have so far been frustrated with the slow pace at which talks have progressed.

Sealing club record signing Leonardo Ulloa from Brighton & Hove Albion for £8 million, as well as Marc Albrighton and Matthew Upson on a pair of frees, Pearson remains intent on making further additions to the squad but has accepted that Cambiasso might not end up being among them.

‘We are looking to bring more players in,’ he told the press. ‘But I don't think it's right to talk about players publicly when we've not achieved the deals.

‘The only one that is in the public domain and has been for a couple of weeks is Esteban Cambiasso. We've not really made too much progress on that as things stand but I'm still hopeful something could be done.

‘it may not be football issues. It's slightly more complicated than I'm prepared to discuss.

‘Unfortunately at times it's quite a complicated process. It appears to be a case of various 'representatives' coming out of the woodwork so it's a case of getting to the bottom of who represents who and trying to achieve the goal, which is to add players to the squad.

‘We'll have to see what happens. If deals can be done and they are the right people then fine. I think it's fair to say we could do with one or two more players to give the squad more strength in depth.

‘That's not to say I'm not pleased with the players we have already, but it's probably going to be important to have one or two more players available to go from window to window.’

Would it be a blow for Leicester to miss out on Cambiasso?
