Predicted Arsenal XI to play Everton - Who comes in for Arteta?

Everton Goodison Aerial

Match to be played on Saturday 23rd August 2014 at 17:30. Venue: Goodison Park, Liverpool.

Arsenal head into this weekend’s trip to Everton looking to make the most of their 2-1 win against Crystal Palace last weekend.

Arsene Wenger’s side were hit by an injury to Kieran Gibbs from that game, which was followed up by a problem received by Mikel Arteta in the Champions League play-off game away at Besiktas.

Wenger can still name a strong side for the trip to Goodison Park and we’ve attempted to name his possible starting team.

GK – Wojciech Szczesny

The Pole should star in goal and Arsenal’s defence can be confident that he’ll make the right calls at the right time.

RB – Mathieu Debuchy

The Frenchman was drafted in as a replacement for Bacary Sagna and this will be a big test for him against a talented Everton attack.

CB – Calum Chambers

It would be extremely harsh from Wenger to drop Chambers after he had such an impressive game against Besiktas. He starts.

CB – Laurent Koscielny

Providing the Frenchman hasn’t suffered any further setbacks on an Achilles problem then he starts. Per Mertesacker can step in otherwise.

LB – Nacho Monreal

With Kieran Gibbs out of action, there’s a chance for Monreal to step into the team and prove why he should be considered the first choice left-back.

RM – Alexis Sanchez

Sanchez hasn’t been at his best for the Gunners yet but he looks dangerous out on the right hand side and could benefit on the counter attack.

DM – Mathieu Flamini

With Arteta out injured, there’s a chance for Flamini to step in and provide that protective role in front of the back four.

CM – Jack Wilshere

Wilshere could stay in the side to offer extra protection defensively but he’s well suited to pulling the strings in the middle of the team.

CM – Aaron Ramsey

Ramsey will be used as he won’t be needed for the return leg of the Champions League game having been sent off. He’ll be his usual box-to-box self.

LM – Santi Cazorla

Cazorla may start in a left sided position but he won’t stay there. Expect to see him drifting into an attacking midfield role when Ramsey can’t get forward.

ST – Olivier Giroud

Starting Giroud would be a big show of faith from Wenger considering Yaya Sanogo started against Palace and the Frenchman didn’t have a good game against Besiktas.
