Cazorla: I struggled for Arsenal last season

Santi Cazorla

The Spaniard says he lacked consistency for the Gunners due to fitness concerns - but will give 100 per cent this term.

Santi Cazorla has provided a self-critical evaluation of his Arsenal campaign last year.

The 29-year-old featured in 31 games for the Gunners last term, scoring four goals and registering eight assists.

However, Cazorla admits that he struggled with ankle problems for the majority of the season, causing him to, in his words, lack consistency.

The Spaniard believes that, this time around, he has a greater chance of giving 100% both physically and mentally.

“Last season I wasn't so consistent because I struggled with ankle problems after a blow with Spain. For this reason I lacked consistency," Cazorla told Arsenal Player.

“But in the end we managed to win a title after so many years and hopefully this year I'll be able to give 100 per cent physically and mentally in order to lift more trophies.”

Cazorla lifted another trophy with Arsenal this month, as Arsene Wenger's side beat Manchester City 3-0 in the Community Shield.

The Spaniard scored and, generally, shone during that game but has not quite hit those heights in the fixtures since.

Nevertheless, Cazorla has registered a distinct statistical impact in the Premier League.

Indeed, as Opta stats show, no Gunners players won more dribbles, landed more accurate crosses or completed more final-third passes than the 29-year-old against Crystal Palace.

Next up for Cazorla and his north London team-mates are Everton, who they face on Saturday evening at Goodison Park.
