Transfer Clock: 11 days until the transfer window closes. Here's the news you need to know...
Mario Balotelli to Liverpool imminent
Mario Balotelli is scheduled to undertake his medical with Liverpool on Friday, reports Italian journalist Gianluca di Marzio. The deal is said to be very advanced, with only the final details to be settled. As well as the £16 million fee being a bargain, Balotelli is said to be set to earn just £90,000 per week upon his move to Anfield. The signing would be a major coup for Liverpool, with some risk, yet manager Brendan Rodgers is clearly buoyed by his success with Luis Suarez last year, and has previously admitted his admiration for the Italian striker. Former Azzurri striker Christian Vieri has however described the sale as a 'great deal for Milan.'
Mehdi Benatia chase hots up
Roma centre-back Mehdi Benatia could be up for sale, with the club's directors conducting meetings in England. Having received a €28 million offer from Bayern Munich, Roma want €32 million plus €8 million in add-ons, report Gazzetta dello Sport. Walter Sabatini and Mauro Baldissoni are said by the paper to have set up meetings with Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal and Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, to try to tempt them to trump Bayern's offer. United are said to be seriously interested but Arsenal's level of interest is unknown.
Roma are reported to have an agreement with Tottenham to sign Vlad Chiriches as a replacement for the Moroccan.
Manchester United's chance to sign Angel di Maria improves, Sami Khedira link
Manchester United have an improved chance to sign Angel di Maria, after Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti revealed the Argentine indicated his desire to move on.
The Italian said in his latest press conference, reported by the Manchester Evening News: "He asked to leave, he didn’t accept the proposal for the renewal of the contract."
The MEN also report that the winger is not the only Real player on United's radar, with Sami Khedira emerging as an option. The German has not said he wants to leave but is reported to be unhappy at the club, and his contract expires next summer.
Arsenal have been strongly linked with Khedira all summer, and Bayern Munich have emerged as new suitors, but United's interest adds a further lack of clarity to where he will be playing from September 2.
The Mail report that United may be able to offload Anderson to Porto, his former club, after loaning Nani to his old side Sporting Lisbon.
Chelsea field Cech enquiries
French sides PSG and Monaco are both interested in signing Petr Cech, report The Telegraph. The Ligue 1 sides both want to take the goalkeeper on loan for a season. Chelsea want the goalkeeper to stay and fight for his place, but their final decision is likely to be influenced by what Cech decides he feels is his best option, with Thibaut Courtois the new first choice.
