Sevilla coach confirms Tottenham target Fazio is London bound to complete switch

Federico Fazio may very well be a Tottenham player soon.

Tottenham Hotspur defeated AEL Limassol in the UEFA Europa League play-off rounds last night but it was a performance which highlighted a defensive frailty that Mauricio Pochettino is actively trying to address.

Until recently it looked as though that hole was set to be plugged by Mateo Mussachio. The fellow Argentine has been a star at Villarreal and it was believed Tottenham were ready to swoop in on the player, with a reported £17 million this summer.

However the deal stalled and after he featured for the Spanish side in the Europa League last night it looks as if his signature is looking increasingly unlikely.

Now they are believed to have moved on, with Sevilla captain Federico Fazio the new objective.

Yet again an Argentine central defender, just like his prospective new coach, he is said to be the subject of £8 million interest from the London club - who are preparing to move on Michael Dawson and/or Vlad Chiriches should a new central defender arrive.

Yesterday the move seemed to kick into overdrive with several sources claiming it was as good as done, with Fazio expected to fly into England for a medical and talks today.

This morning that did not seem to be the case, as Fazio trained with Sevilla. Inside Spanish Football reported that Fazio trained as usual with the club today, while a video has also been shown on ABCdesevilla of him in action this morning, so therefore no deal is done with Tottenham.

But despite this it now looks as though Fazio is set to become a Tottenham player by the weekend. It is now believed he trained as usual this morning before saying goodbye to his team-mates and heading off to London to finalise a move.

These details were confirmed by Unai Emery, the Sevilla coach. He declared that Fazio was not available for the opening game of La Liga against Valencia - as he was set to join Tottenham before the end of the weekend:

"Fazio has little or no chance to be with us tomorrow. Fazio's departure makes us happy for him. The side effects of this is to win titles. We preferred him to stay."

Is Fazio a good option for Tottenham?
